Hospitality Design Trends From HD Expo 2015
HD Expo by Hospitality Design Magazine is the premier trade show for the hospitality industry. The 2015 show took place May 13 – 15, showcasing the best interior design products for hotels, resorts, casinos, spas, etc. …well, not all the best, since Artaic wasn’t exhibiting this year – then again, I might be a little biased.
I walked the floor this year with our head of sales and operations, Blake Goodwin, to check out the latests product trends. Here’s what we found.
Funky, Layered Flooring Designs
You’ll find a lot of carpet companies at HD Expo, and in years past the designs sort of blended together with similar aesthetics. This time there were some refreshingly different designs from the big companies like Durkan and Milliken – yet they all seemed to be going funky with it.

Durkan‘s booth had a lot of texture including these layered designs from their LAKIR and MODESTO lines.

OW Hospitality‘s offering included a collection from Roger Thomas that layered modern with traditional.

Milliken went dark and graphic with their design.
Reclaimed Wood
Many booths this year were constructed from reclaimed wood – including shipping crates, pallets, and barn beams. The pinnacle being Urban Evolutions, a company built around reclaimed material. A lot of the surfaces in their space reminded me of Artaic’s ReSalvage mosaic designs that mimic reclaimed wood.

The Architex booth was constructed using shipping pallets.

Edelman Leather and Fame Hardwood both used nice wooden beams to construct their booths.

Walker Zanger and Daltile both had tile that mimicked the look of reclaimed wood.
Bright Whimsical Art and Forms
There were several exhibiters at HD Expo who seemed to have a lot of fun with their booths and the results were stunning. This was very prevalent in the LZF Lighting space where they had a giant koi and cute elephant lamp.

LZF showed a lighter side to hospitality design (awesome pun, right?)

JVA Art Group had some familiar faces in their energetic art-filled space.

Valley Forge had fun with color, including dripping pink and black fabric and swatch clothing.

Currey and Company had a big gold tree, Gold Leaf Design Group had a big blue whale, and Integra fabrics had stuffed dogs on a bike. $1 was donated to the humane society for every photo taken of people with the dogs. (yes, Blake and I got our photos taken).
and on the flip side…
Deep, Dark and Sophisticated
A bunch of companies went dark this year. Milliken, who typically has a bright space in their white and light blue brand colors, went with a dark booth with deep hues. RH Contract won best in show for their stylish booth with rich textures and dark finishes.

Bernhardt and RH Contract used dark colors to create inviting spaces.

Quality & Company created a sexy lounge with a lot of character.

Sunpan Contract, Pi Fine Art, and RS Barcelona brought gleaming metals into their dark designs.
Did you spot any trends we missed? Let us know!

We noticed many different openwork designs in lighting, hardware, wall screens and we can see evidence of this trend in your photo of Quality and Company’s lounge. Also many organic and fluid patterns as seen in the floor coverings you have shown. Nice recap.
