Inside Out
By Ariel Schuster, Sales and Design Consultant at Artaic
Let’s call a spade a spade, this pandemic has been the worst – but hear me out, SOME good things have come out of it, right? All of those restaurants that (finally) jumped on the outdoor-seating bandwagon, that new found appreciation for your own yard, or balcony?
After over a year of feeling like a caged animal it’s about time we get out there and embrace open-space! Whether it’s revamping a residential patio, integrating outdoor seating to a restaurant space, or creating your own glamping area, now is the perfect time to polish off our green-thumb of design (if you will) by getting creative with our exteriors. So let’s turn things inside out – read on to see some of our favorite interiors gone outdoors!

Bringing the Indoors Out
Your home is your safe space, your happy place – it’s where the heart is! Are those same walls starting to feel smaller and smaller as the days go by? Why not change the backdrop by bringing some of that style outside? Artaic founder and CEO Ted Acworth and President Martha Acworth did just that with a total renovation of their family’s Boston rooftop space. Featured on DIY Channels’s hit show DIY Indoors Out, their revamped deck included a kitchen for outdoor grilling, seating for entertaining guests, and of course gorgeous mosaics! Watch their fabulous outdoor transformation in the DIY Indoors Out episode below.
Become a Grillmaster
Entertaining outside has never looked so good, and as an East Coaster I can say wholeheartedly that when grilling season is upon us, we relish it (hot-dog pun intended). Outdoor kitchens – whether it be your own or in a multi-family/hotel space – are ideal spaces to feature a gorgeous mosaic. Three big pluses to adding mosaic tile to your outdoor kitchen: Not only is tile extremely durable and easy to clean (goodbye worrying about grease stains), it adds the perfect statement piece that an outdoor space needs. Take cues from this mosaic that Artaic worked on with Ledden Palimeno that adds a great pop of color.
Dive into Style
With all that naked square footage pools are literally blank canvases waiting for some art. While a good solid or blend of tile will never go out of style, a custom mosaic in a pool is a guaranteed showstopper. In collaboration with M Designs Architects, Artaic produced this custom mosaic utilizing 3/4” Vitreous Glass tile which was inspired by the clients favorite scene from the Sistine Chapel – Michelangelo is blushing!

Add Some Glam(p)
Just because a space is outside doesn’t mean that it has to feel like you are up a creek without a paddle (unless you like that…). Hone in on your interior aesthetic and allow that style to complement your outdoor space creating a cohesive, well curated property! Artaic’s backlit mosaic in collaboration with YWS Design and Architecture within the ‘Chateau Marrakesh (hookah lounge)’ tent, brings a middle-eastern flair to the modern glamping lifestyle and the Nevada desert.
Get Outdoors as a (Multi)Family
Designing an outdoor space at a multi-family complex? Design doesn’t stop at the door, bring the style of the rest of the interiors-out! Artaic collaborated with CID Design Group to create a custom pattern that compliments the classic stripe seen from the rugs to the details in the poolscape – when is a tuxedo stripe NOT chic? I’ll wait…
Whether you’re looking to revamp your own patio and grill area, or you’re designing an outdoor restaurant, bar, or lounge, don’t let the change of scenery intimidate you – and give it some style! By curating this additional space we are not only beautifying our spaces, but we are keeping the boredom and bay (and increasing that Zestimate, people!) and that, my friends, is what I call a win-win-win!
