Small businesses shift strategies during coronavirus crisis
Artaic, a Boston-based company that uses robotic technology to create mosaic installations, is currently operational, founder Ted Acworth said in an interview. The company, which employs about 25 people, manufactures mosaics using tile. Instead of having employees go into the factory where they would be in close contact with one another, Acworth has brought the company’s smaller desktop manufacturing stations to employees’ homes.
Acworth added that the firm has a full pipeline of work at the moment. Artaic’s clients are architecture and design firms across the U.S. The company is offering virtual factory tours to clients while they are unable to fly out to visit, Acworth said.
“We just have to survive until a recovery comes,” Acworth said. “It all depends how long this lasts. If it’s over in a month it will just be a blip. If it’s over in four months, that’s another matter.”
