Artist Feature: Laura Dozor
This month’s featured artist is Laura Dozor, a graphic designer, illustrator, and founder of Dozor Design & Illustration studio. She approaches graphic design as “a purpose-driven, collaborative process where form follows function, aesthetic choices support the consistency of brand, and communication is paramount.” We asked her how she felt about art within architecture. She feels incorporating art is one piece of a grand structure that brings people together and creates different feelings of space.
Laura submitted her artwork of a pineapple painting, which is a part of her Edibles series. It is filled with a refreshingly bright and cheery palette. At the local grocery store one day, she was inspired by the produce section of plump tomatoes, bright green fronds, and orange-yellow fruits. As she held up a juicy pineapple to the bright blue sky she decided to capture that exact moment, with the colors and textures, in her painting.
The inspiration of nature’s light, colors, and textures influences Laura’s paintings in the series. After reading one of her favorite books by Milton Glaser, Drawing is Thinking, her painting has become more courageous, more understanding of the surrounding environment, and more meaningful and understood. She considers color as an essential element and primary focus of both art and design.
Using modern technology, such as Artaic’s Tylist™ software, designers are able to input an original image and transform it into a one-of-a-kind custom mosaic mural using robotic manufacturing. To further explore this concept, we’ve taken Laura’s artwork and uploaded it into Tylist™ to create the mosaic. We visualized her bright and cheery pineapple in a casual and upbeat environment, so we rendered it as a backsplash behind a juice bar. Pineapple smoothie anyone?
Perhaps you would like to envision your own photography, drawings, or oil paintings in the mosaic medium. Just send your entry our way to have your artwork rendered into a mosaic, and maybe be next month’s feature.
Send submissions to Sasha Mulcahey at sasha@artaic.com. Most file formats acceptable, including photography of original artwork.
