Hyatt Maui
The Hawaiian island of Maui was named after a mythological chief and hero of the same name. Stories of Maui’s exploits are told in nearly every Polynesian land. Artaic worked with Design Group Carl Ross to portray two of the stories as mosaic murals in the airy lobby of the Hyatt in Maui. Using natural stone tile, one image displays Maui restraining the sun to make the days longer in the summer, while the other shows Maui as the great fisherman who could catch anything on his magical hook. The mosaics bring a custom piece of the island history to design of the space with a stone palette that works perfectly with the rest of the natural finishes.
