ka Lōkahi OKe Aloha – “In love and togetherness there is unity”

Hawaii based Artist Kristie Kosmides collaborated with Artaic to create a meaningful and vibrant mosaic mural that invokes feelings of hope and community, reminding patients that they are not alone in their healing journey. This Mosaic greets patients as they enter the Hilo Medical Center in Hawaii and depicts a stunning scene made up of our ½” Vitreous glass tile in rich shades of green, blue, and orange. 

For the mural, Kosmides drew inspiration from native Hawaiian flora and fauna, the local Wailuku River, rainbows, and clothing by Sig Zane, a Hilo-based designer, to create a visual ‘thread’ that connects the figures in the mural and creates a scene that reflects on the beauty of life through friendships and family of all ages and ethnicities. The mural also pays tribute to the healing garden in the back of the building, tying both spaces together.

“The supporting hands of the Rainbow (In regard to location and Rainbow Falls) bring hope, love and healing for all who come her”
