Design ‘N Gather years past
For those who might not already know, Design N Gather, DnG , is a competition and collaboration created by Artaic. We team up with a restaurant, business, or anyone with the right kind of space, and allow the public to design a mosaic, which will be created by us, and installed in the space provided by our partner.
The DnG competition started just a few years ago as a collaboration between Artaic and the at the time yet to be completed Gather Restaurant, a full service restaurant and bar that serves a menu of affordable, fresh, and inventive dishes inspired by modern-American cuisine. Found within the District Hall building in the Seaport district of Boston, the space offered a blank canvas designed to foster innovation, creativity and collaboration.
The competition for the design of the mural was opened to the public and submissions came pouring in. The winning design was Joseph Lyman’s “Building Dreams II” and though many others were amazing, theirs was the one that truly complemented the architecture of the space.

After an amazing collaboration with Gather we decided to keep it going the next year. This time around the team up happened with MassChallenge, also in Boston. The office, designed by Analogue Studio, was made to aid the flow of creativity. As an incubator for many smaller companies to compete in, it was designed with an open layout allowing for customization of workspace, while also having several more intimate meeting rooms scatter throughout. For the mosaic to work best with the space, participants were asked to pull inspiration and characteristic from the space while contributing their own unique flare to elevate the overall design. Jillian Welenc’s “Anatomy of an Idea” won and is now featured on one of MassChallenge’s main walls.
