Design N’ Gather 2016 Winner Announced
Las Vegas, NV- Creating a mosaic capturing the essence of Las Vegas, to be displayed at the MGM Grand’s Wet Republic pool club, was no simple task for the contestants of the 2016 Design ‘N Gather (DNG) Mosaic Design Competition. After a long yet thrilling process, DNG announced Nicole Kohri as the winner, who will receive the grand prize of a trip to Paris for two. Her piece “Deltawaves” was selected as the mosaic that best represented the architecture of the space, the essence of Las Vegas, and the brand image of the Wet Republic and MGM Grand.
Artaic and Bostik, two companies which have stretched the boundaries of design using tile and grout, sponsored this annual event. From the many entries, the panel of expert judges selected 10 finalists whose values mirrored their innovative thinking. Using Artaic’s Tessera™ software, contestants were able to see their beautiful designs instantly emerge from paper to pixel.

Deltawaves, the winning design, was produced in 3/4″ vitreous glass tile by Artaic and affixed to clear acrylic panels with Bostik’s Dimension™ RapidCure™ Glass-Filled, Pre-Mixed Grout. The mosaic mural was installed as a focal piece at the Las Vegas MGM Grand’s Wet Republic pool club, where it was unveiled to over a thousand designers on May 5 at HD Expo’s Party By The Pool, and was quickly backlit to further exhibit all of its amazing and unique visual characteristics.
Nicole Kohri resides in the San Francisco Bay area working as a mixologist, using her creativity fixing drinks for a wide range of audiences. Originally from Germany, Nicole has a unique and beautiful perspective on Las Vegas nightlife, which contributed greatly to her inspiration for this design:
Music is the heart of Las Vegas, a rhythm that builds ambiance and sets the mood for locals and tourist alike. ‘Deltawaves’ suggests elegance, curiosity, youth, confidence and encourages you to escape to Las Vegas’ vibrant music scene.
Nicole’s mosaic, along with the other finalists’ designs, traveled as a gallery and were last displayed at the annual American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention on May 19-21 in Philadelphia. There in the ballroom’s lobby, ten brightly-lit, free-standing, tile mosaics exhibited all of the finalists’ artistry. The illuminated mosaics glistened brightly, attesting to the breadth of creativity achieved with the help of Artaic, Bostik and this year’s DNG Competition.
