Bold Bathrooms
by Ariel Schuster, Residential Design Consultant at Artaic
For most of us, the novelty of being a homebody wore off in May. Sourdough starter transformed into zucchini bread in summer, and pumpkin bread in the fall – now I’m sick of bread and I never thought I would utter those words. The moral of the story is we’re bored in the house, and were bored of the house. We’re all victim to the Instagram wormhole – constantly scrolling through posts, seeing funky new design trends that are so cool, if only you could “pull them off”. Fortunately for all of us there is that little room we all frequent where we drink wine in the tub – I mean – enjoy our privacy, and that little room is the bathroom!
A bathroom is the perfect place to be bold and creative when it comes to decor. Typically a bathroom or powder room is a small space that is enclosed from the rest of the house, but is still frequented often, and as such is the perfect space to introduce a little unexpected “wow” factor into your home. Think color – pattern – finish; make it personal by paying homage to your favorite music icon (You’ve seen our ‘Purple Rain’ shower, right?) or animal (Please refer to our ‘Man Cave’ blog post to see my dream mosaic of my dog).
Take for example the installation below; our client wanted a maximalist bathroom design inspired by Monets ‘Waterlillies’ series, so we paired a painted mural with a mosaic feature wall and a modern abstract flooring mosaic beneath their bathtub. In this example more is definitely more – the deep indigo walls solidify the impressionistic inspiration for this space.
Do you want to flex your creative muscles but feel like color isn’t your thing? No shame in your game – black and white is never a bad choice. This modern Seattle installation featuring our Burst mosaic from our Flourish collection turns what could have been a very ordinary toilet room into an eye catching statement wall. The mosaic design creates movement in a small space, opening making the room feel livelier while maintaining its contemporary chic aesthetic. Have a specific flower you prefer? Also, see below for a fully custom floral installation that becomes a bold feature piece for this sophisticated neutral bathroom.
The moral of the story is this – if you are looking for a “safe space” to test the waters with your home-décor (and I think we are all looking for safe spaces these days – PSA: TikTok is not one of them) that overlooked powder room, or outdated bathroom is calling your name. Our Vitreous Glass and Glazed Porcelain tile offerings come in a fabulous palette of colors for the Technicolor and monochrome enthusiasts-alike.
BONUS ROUND: Our tile is non-porous and mold and mildew resistant – in other words it is SO easy to clean – goodbye fuddy-duddy wallpaper, hello sleek shiny tile! And while we can outfit your entire bathroom floor to ceiling in tile, I promise you, you would be surprised at how much of a difference a single feature wall can make!
