Aqua Pura

We have all been thinking it… 2020 has been a real brat of a year.  I’m over it, you’re over it, and the “Summer Scaries” kicking in as we roll into Fall is just the icing on the cake.  At this point it would not surprise me if it started snowing here in New England in October (but seriously – please don’t – I’m not ready). 

In these times of stresses, messes, and summertime sadness let’s choose to reflect on the good things, shall we?   Let’s focus on a positive we can all cling to as we try to stay afloat through the New Year (you hear that 2021, we’re looking at you kid, throw us a bone!).

There is a reason water is a staple feature in any vacation.  Whether the location of your escape is an island surrounded by water, boasts a stunning salt-water pool, or involves a trip to the spa for luxe treatments, if you read between the lines the correlation is clear – the element of water brings a sense of peace, serenity, and rejuvenation to the body – Aqua Pura. 

Being around water makes us happier, calmer, and more at peace. I am sure you have felt it – you dive off a dock into a crisp calm lake after your morning coffee and leave feeling invigorated, or you sit in a steam room after a long arduous day and walk out refreshed.  Believe it or not, the physical and psychological response our bodies have to water is a phenomenon because scientists can’t quite put their finger on why we react this way.  Just take a quick peek at this pinboard and the sensation immediately overwhelms.

The moral of the story here is that you don’t need to live on the ocean, or go on vacation, or live in a tropical paradise (I’m eyeing Hawaii), to enjoy the benefits of water.  Do you have a shower, or a tub?  Do you have a space in your home that you find yourself going to feel relaxed?  So much of what affects our moods and feelings is visceral. This means if we can create the essence of water, we can appreciate those same effects.
