Tromsø Airport
Artaic produced a mosaic mural celebrating the Northern Lights in 3/8″ vitreous glass for the Tromsø Airport in Norway. The 54-square-foot mosaic is based on a photograph taken by Norwegian photographer, Ole Salamonsen, of the Northern Lights over Tromsdalen. The urban neighborhood of Tromsdalen is located in Tromsø and is known for its stunning mountain views. The mosaic iteration of this photo is located near the airport restrooms and greets visitors into the terminal.
Artaic worked with Tromsø based contractor Peab Bogstrand to bring this mosaic vision to life. After reviewing several submissions from other mosaic producers, Peab Bogstrand ultimately turned to Artaic to design and produce the mosaic mural. “The other submissions were not quite what the customer had imagined, so they actually wanted to drop the mosaic and art from the project,” explained Eirik Dalby, department manager at Peab Bogstrand. “Peab Bogstrand refused to give up and we started to search the Internet. Then we found Artaic. After very good customer service and help from incredibly skilled people at Artaic, we got a suggestion on how we could solve these problems. The result was a fantastic work of art in glass mosaic, which of course, our client also loved.”
