A Year in Review, Looking Back at 2015
As 2015 comes to close, lets take a walk down memory lane, looking back at our best moments. From abstract pool feature walls to custom backlit designs, our 2015 projects spanned a wide range of styles, sizes, and locations.
We’ll start the journey with our ReSalvage mosaic collection.
The unique mosaic series, which presents stylized motifs of scrap paper, peeling paint, torn cardboard, dismantled pallets, and reclaimed wood, draws inspiration from the recycled tile material itself.
The idea for the series came about from the idea of making the mosaic out of 100% recycled glass tile. The imagery continues the idea of recycling and comes from things that could be salvaged and reused like scrap paper, peeling paint, torn cardboard, dismantled pallets, and reclaimed wood.
The collection was honored as an ID BOY Award finalist for “Use of Recycled or Reclaimed Materials.”
Our custom lobby murals for Vertex Pharmaceuticals won the Coverings CID Award for Commercial Tile Design. The new office houses both research and commercial devisions under one roof.
When creating this piece, we wanted to make something that could stand alone as artwork while still being maintaining the Vertex brand. The final mosaic references Vertex’s groundbreaking treatment for cystic fibrosis.
Artaic had the pleasure of taking part in Design Museum Boston’s “Design For Dining” exhibit. Seven restaurants pair up with local design firms to create unique vignettes that highlight how design can shape the dining experience. working with the firm Bergmeyer we produced a custom orange mosaic tabletop for Legal Crossing. The table top acts as the centerpiece of a private circular booth and is backlit with LED lights that are programmed to gradually shift from amber to crimson over the course of the 2-hour dining experience.
We got beer! Collaborations are pretty cool, so we figured we would do one too. We teamed up with Trillum Brewing Company who created an amazing double IPA brewed with 100% Mosaic hops. Check out our mosaic robot Arty illustrated on the bottle label!
